What Do You Believe Is Most Strongly Correlated With Success??

TAKE THE POLL AT BRYCE BIZ DOT COM! ONLY 5 DAYS LEFT!!  ALSO FIND OUT HOW TO PUT YOUR DUCKS IN A ROW!!!!!!!!!

How Many Ducks Make A Row?

Spring is here and the New England tourist season is quickly approaching.  Wheather you are a business owner or someone with a profession geared toward tourism, you may have a few goal oriented questions on your mind.  How do I make more revenue/wages this time around? How will I be better at my profession/operating my business? What do I need to change and what do I need to improve?  Step one to answering all of your questions is "Get Your Ducks In a Row."  This popular phrase when disected can provide more meaning and assistance than you would assume. First ask "what are my ducks?" and second "how many ducks make a row?" I will prove all that is needed is one duck.

Begin with the first, what are my ducks? Lets assume ducks represent problems.  The most important task in aligning your ducks is to determine the appropriate problems to correct.  You could make a long list of major to small problems, however you must correct only the ones that will strongly impact your goals and possibly correct other problems along the way.  Lets say for example your problem is concerning overtime wages, take a look at your employees can they be more qualified? More experienced? When considering how to solve this problem you can either focus on training/certifying your employees or even replacing them to create more efficient work time.  Consider other problems this solution will solve, quality of service/product, employee confidence, customer satisfaction, or your bottom line or maybe all of the above.  Solving one problem in this case has provided a solution to many other problems.

Addressing the second component, "how many ducks make a row", imagine every problem when solved deliberately or as a byproduct is placed behind you.  This process will leave remaining problems ahead and place problems solved  behind, keep in mind problems, are figuratively speaking ducks. So how many ducks make a row, well naturally any quantity more than one will create a row.  I believe tending to one duck will instigate others to follow and you will have your row.

My answer against all definitions you can make a row with only one duck.

Journey to the Center of Self-Professionalism

Confidence + Self-Respect + Independence = Self-Professionalism

Yes, I just created this word but soon you will begin to recognize it in everyday life and realize that you may already have it.

Professionalism is the tools and instincts many people use in the office and outside the office to display and convey a distinguished message: I'm appropriate, I have manners, I dress the part, I follow the rules and ethics, and yes I will kiss your ass.

Self-Professionalism is the professionalism in ones self,  in practice 24/7.  Self-Professionalism is about being independent, speaking your mind, and not being a "yes-man."  Weather it be at work, at an I.H.O.P meeting an acquaintance or making a deal at a yard sale, Self-Professionalism comes from within and is used in all your interactions.

The difference between professionalism and Self-Professionalism is the latter comes from within, it's what portrays your first impression on to others: Eye contact with every question and answer, a firm handshake, standing straight, confident body language, speaking clearly without umm's, ahh's and double negatives.  The most important attribute of self-professionalism is you don't have to look or dress the part to have it and best of all, people with self professionalism attract an audience with their energy.

Self-Professionalism is not acquired it is inside everyone waiting to be accessed.  Dressing like everyone else in your profession/office/industry is expected but set your own trend be the carpenter wearing Wrangler rather than carhart or trade on Wall Street with the JC Penny special rather than Armani.  Dress with self respect, don't wear a fancier suit than needed just because someone else wearing it looks professional. Self-Professionalism comes hand in hand with self respect, respect yourself and your Self-Professionalism will follow along with confidence.

You may say self-professionalism is professionalism, however you are wrong. Professionalism can be a disguise, anyone can attend an etiquette class and buy an expensive suit and "act" professional.  After talking with someone in a professionalism disguise for only five minutes you will know something is missing. That something is Self-Professionalism, it is below the surface and  past the robotic procedures to impress your boss and or listener, it is your spiritual connection to professionalism, it's what you use to connect with others, to attract, and make things happen.

When Is Literal Too Literal? Ask The Wet Squirrel

If you've every seen a squirrel get into a bird feeder or a bird bath you'll know it will over indulge every time.  Whether its too much bird seed or a few too many playful splashes that squirrel will appear ridiculous and remain that way for sometime after.  That's why we will coin Taco Bell (one of my favorite fast food joints) the Wet Squirrel of March.  Anyone who noticed they're sign this week knows that the manger of that franchise is too literal.  "Real Meals" period. This is when it is possible to be too literal, The Bell is either ensuing they have never offered "real meals" or that they have gone above and beyond their duty as a, im gonna call it an eatery, and offered...yes you've guessed it real meals! This over indulgence in literal-ness leaves Taco Bell, like the wet squirrel, embarrassed, confused, and wondering where they went wrong.  I obviously got the 10.00 meal 2 baja gorditas, mexican pizza, and larger drink and have been enjoying the burps ever since.

I strongly urge Taco Bell to remove its new catch phrase and just simply say "we got tacos!" because really in a land of microwaved burgers a fresh taco is attractive.
